CSGG Rejects Calls for Defence Minister’s Resignation, Urges Unity and Fact-Based National Dialogue After Jos Attack
The Citizens Support for Good Governance (CSGG) has described recent calls for the resignation of Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa Gwabin, as unnecessary and counterproductive, even as it expressed deep sympathy for the victims of the March 27 attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos, as well as those affected in Kagarko, Kaduna State, and other parts of Northern Nigeria.
In a statement jointly issued by its National Coordinator, , and Director of Media and Public Affairs, , the group acknowledged the pain and outrage felt by Nigerians following the tragic killing of over 30 citizens.
CSGG noted that the concerns raised by reflect the genuine emotions of Nigerians and must not be dismissed. However, the group emphasized that national security challenges require strategic, coordinated, and sustained responses not reactionary decisions driven by public pressure.
«“We align with the pain of Nigerians. Every life lost is a tragedy that must never be normalized. However, calls for the Minister to step aside at this critical time are not only premature but risk undermining ongoing security operations,” the statement read.»
The group stressed that the Honourable Minister of Defence remains fully engaged and is focused on implementing long-term, sustainable solutions to Nigeria’s security challenges. It added that beyond long-term strategies, there are ongoing immediate interventions and measurable gains being recorded across various theatres of operation.
CSGG further highlighted that while isolated attacks receive widespread attention, many more planned attacks are being successfully foiled daily through intelligence-led operations and inter-agency coordination.
«“For every unfortunate incident reported, several others have been prevented. Our security forces are actively neutralizing threats, rescuing kidnapped victims, and reclaiming communities previously under siege,” the group stated.»
The organization called for a more balanced national conversation one that acknowledges both the challenges and the progress being made by the armed forces under the current defence leadership.
While commending the Plateau State Governor, , for his swift response and commitment to justice, CSGG urged citizens, leaders, and stakeholders to unite in support of security agencies rather than deepen divisions.
«“This is a time for collective responsibility, not blame. Nigeria’s security challenges are complex, but with sustained effort, coordination, and public support, lasting solutions are achievable.”»
CSGG concluded by reaffirming its support for ongoing military operations and called for continued trust in the nation’s security architecture, while demanding accountability, transparency, and results.
