KADUNA — Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to Kaduna State Governor, Hon. Victor Mathew Bobai, has urged stakeholders and citizens of Southern Kaduna to approach the 2027 political contest with what he described as “strategic thinking, political maturity and a clear understanding of the region’s interests.”

Bobai spoke against the backdrop of the increasing number of Southern Kaduna political figures emerging on different political platforms ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said the emergence of prominent Southern Kaduna politicians across the APC, ADC, NDC and APM should not merely be viewed as a contest of personalities, but as an opportunity for the people of the region to carefully examine what each political platform has delivered, what it is promising and what it intends to do differently.

According to him, the political developments surrounding Southern Kaduna have made 2027 particularly significant.

“Southern Kaduna is at a political crossroads. We have respected political leaders emerging from different platforms, and we should respect all of them. But politics is ultimately about interests, representation and development. Our people must therefore ask what each political arrangement is bringing to the table.”

Bobai said the emergence of Hon. Felix Hassan Hyat as Director-General of the APM presidential campaign organisation was a development that should be taken seriously because of Hyat’s political experience and grassroots network.

“We congratulate Daddy Felix Hassan Hyat. Those of us who know him understand that he is a strategic thinker and an experienced grassroots politician. His appointment is therefore politically significant and should not be dismissed.”

However, Bobai argued that Southern Kaduna should not allow political personalities to overshadow what he described as tangible developments that have occurred under the administrations of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani.

Tinubu’s Kachia university intervention
He pointed specifically to President Tinubu’s decision to take over NOK University in Kachia and transform it into the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.

The State House announced the takeover in February 2025, saying the decision fulfilled a promise made to the people of Southern Kaduna.

President Tinubu subsequently appointed Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the university’s Governing Council as the institution prepared for its academic take-off.

Bobai described the university as more than a political symbol.

“For Southern Kaduna, a federal university is an institution for the future. It means education, employment, research, entrepreneurship and economic activity. We should therefore ask ourselves how we can consolidate and expand such opportunities.”

Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan
He also cited the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, by the Federal Government.

The State House announced the appointment of the medical centre’s Chief Medical Director in March 2025, describing it as a newly established federal medical institution.

According to Bobai, the significance of such an institution goes beyond the building itself.

“A Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan has implications for healthcare, employment, specialist services and the wider economy of Southern Kaduna. These are issues that should form part of our political conversation.”

Christopher Musa and federal representation
Bobai also referenced President Tinubu’s appointment of General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd.) as Minister of Defence, describing it as another important point in the discussion about Southern Kaduna’s relationship with the Federal Government.

President Tinubu nominated General Musa as Defence Minister in December 2025, and he was subsequently sworn into office.

“When a son of our region occupies a strategic national position, the important thing is not simply the title. We should look at how representation can translate into security, opportunity, infrastructure and greater national attention to our communities.”

Jerry Adams and the Kaduna political equation
Bobai further pointed to Governor Uba Sani’s nomination of Jerry Adams as his running mate for the 2027 Kaduna governorship election.

Channels Television reported that the nomination represented a departure from APC’s previous Muslim-Muslim governorship tickets in Kaduna and that Governor Sani presented the choice as part of his commitment to inclusion, fairness and equitable representation.

Bobai said the political significance of the nomination should not be reduced to religion or electoral arithmetic.

“Jerry Adams’ nomination creates an opportunity for Southern Kaduna to have a stronger voice within the state political structure. But representation must ultimately be measured by what it delivers to the people.”

“Don’t allow personalities to replace issues”
Bobai acknowledged that the opposition now has experienced Southern Kaduna politicians on its side, including prominent figures with substantial political histories.

He argued, however, that the development should force the APC to work harder rather than resort to attacks against its opponents.

“We should not attack Felix Hassan Hyat because he has accepted another political responsibility. We should congratulate him and then return to the issues. If we believe our record is strong, let us present the record.”

He said the APC’s challenge in Southern Kaduna was therefore not simply to count political personalities but to demonstrate why existing programmes deserve continuity and why more should be demanded from the administration.

“Our people are intelligent. They will listen to everybody. They will compare the records, the programmes, the candidates and the opportunities before them. The answer should not be imposed on them; the evidence should be presented to them.”

Southern Kaduna’s political bargaining power
The Governor’s aide said the region should avoid allowing the 2027 contest to become a battle of personalities.

“Southern Kaduna should not surrender its political bargaining power to any individual or party. Every political platform should come before our people and answer the same questions: What have you delivered? What are you offering? What is your plan for security, education, healthcare, roads, agriculture, employment and representation?”

He maintained that the development interventions credited to the Tinubu administration, together with projects and policies of the Uba Sani administration, provide the APC with issues it can take before the electorate.

“The Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, the Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Defence Minister and the nomination of Jerry Adams as deputy governorship candidate are all developments that Southern Kaduna can examine. They should be part of the evidence-based conversation about our political future.”

Bobai said the APC should consequently resist complacency.

“An existing project is not a blank cheque. The APC must continue to explain what has been achieved, acknowledge what remains to be done and tell Southern Kaduna what the next phase will look like.”

He concluded:

“2027 should not be a referendum on personalities. It should be a conversation about the future of Southern Kaduna. Let every politician come. Let every party present its programme. Let every candidate make his case. But let our people examine the record, the opportunities and the future before making their choice.”

Bobai’s position comes as Southern Kaduna assumes increasing importance in the political calculations surrounding the 2027 Kaduna governorship and presidential elections, with prominent politicians from the region now occupying positions or contesting under several political platforms.
