CSGG, Oodua Youth Parliament Warn Sponsors of Cyberbullying Campaign Against Defence Minister CG Musa; Urge Critics to Allow the Minister to Work
The Citizens Support for Good Governance (CSGG) has issued a strong warning to individuals and political actors allegedly orchestrating a coordinated cyberbullying and propaganda campaign against Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa.
In a strongly worded statement released after a joint meeting held in Lagos State with the leadership of the Oodua Youth Parliament (OYP), the group declared that Nigerian youths would not remain silent while patriotic leaders committed to national security are subjected to organized online attacks.
The statement was jointly endorsed by Hon. AARE Abdulmajeed Oladimeji Oyeniyi, leader of the Oodua Youth Parliament, alongside the CSGG Northwest Coordinator, Danbaba Malunfashi Hamisu, and the CSGG Director of Mobilization, Henry Pascal Netdo.
According to the group, the recent wave of social media attacks targeting the Defence Minister has little to do with performance or national interest but is instead driven by political interests and individuals who benefit from the continued instability in parts of the country.
“Nigerian youths stand firmly behind General Christopher Gwabin Musa. His leadership has continued to bring credibility, professionalism, and renewed confidence to the defence architecture of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement said.
The groups argued that certain political actors have become uncomfortable with the growing credibility and influence of the Defence Minister because of his commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security institutions.
They alleged that some individuals have built political influence and financial benefits around the persistence of insecurity and therefore view any serious effort to restore stability as a threat to their interests.
“Some powerful political actors are uncomfortable because Musa represents a defence leadership that refuses to play political games.
They understand that if security coordination and deployment decisions are handled decisively and professionally, many criminal elements hiding in the forests would have nowhere left to operate,” the statement added.
CSGG further alleged that these actors have resorted to sponsoring coordinated social media campaigns, cyberbullying, and misinformation aimed at weakening public confidence in the nation’s defence leadership.
The groups warned that they were already monitoring and documenting individuals and networks allegedly behind the propaganda campaign.
“Those hiding behind anonymous social media accounts, sponsored bloggers, and propaganda platforms to attack General Christopher Gwabin Musa should be aware that Nigerians are watching closely.
We are carefully documenting the networks, sponsors, and political actors behind these campaigns,” the statement said.
They maintained that the ongoing attacks were part of a broader attempt to weaponize public sentiment and create instability within the security architecture of the government.
Despite the criticisms circulating online, the organizations insisted that ongoing efforts by the defence leadership and other security authorities were already yielding progress in addressing security challenges across the country.
They warned that individuals attempting to sabotage national security efforts for political ambition would eventually be exposed before the Nigerian public.
“The era where people hide behind sponsored misinformation and cyberbullying to manipulate public opinion is coming to an end. Nigerians will soon know those who are weaponizing insecurity for political ambition,” the statement concluded.
