Yari Named DG of Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Campaign Council
KADUNA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has constituted the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, appointing former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, as Director-General.
The composition of the campaign council was announced on Saturday in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Under the arrangement, President Tinubu will serve as Chairman of the Campaign Council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will serve as Vice Chairmen.
Senator Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State and prominent APC leader, will coordinate the campaign as Director-General, while Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has been appointed Secretary.
The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, and Hadiza Bala-Usman will serve as Deputy Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively.
The campaign council will also feature a number of senior political figures as advisers to President Tinubu, including former APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande; former Ogun State Governor, Chief Segun Osoba; former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha; former APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu; and Senator Florence Ita Giwa.
Senior party and government officials have also been assigned responsibilities across the country.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni have been appointed Deputy Directors-General for the campaign in the southern and northern parts of the country.
They will work alongside Senator Opeyemi Bamidele and Senator Jibril Barau in coordinating the two zones.
Former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, will serve as Deputy Director-General in charge of mobilisation, while the President’s Chief of Staff will oversee administration as Deputy Director-General.
James Abiodun Faleke, who played a major role in the APC’s 2022/2023 presidential campaign, has also returned to the campaign structure as Deputy Director-General in charge of election planning, coordination and monitoring.
Faleke will work with zonal directors appointed to coordinate activities across the six geopolitical zones.
Senator Olushola Adeyeye will oversee the South-West; Dr Ngozi Olejeme, the South-South; Senator Uche Ekwunife, the South-East; Muntaqha Rabe, the North-West; Ahmed Muhammed Ketso, the North-Central; and Senator Sani Danladi, the North-East.
Stella Okotete, Engineer Abdullahi Garba Ramat and Audu Maikori will serve as secretaries within the election planning directorate.
The legal directorate will be headed by Muiz Adeyemi Banire, with Dr Liman Hassan and Babatunde Ogala serving as deputies. Other members of the legal team include the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi; former Katsina State Governor, Ibrahim Shema; Worgu Boms; and Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh.
The campaign council has also unveiled its media and strategic communication structure, with the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, appointed Coordinating Director for Media and Strategic Communication.
He will work with Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu, while Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and Felix Morka will serve as Coordinating Deputy Directors.
Abdulaziz AbdulAziz, Temitope Ajayi, Arabinrin Aderonke and Frederick Nwabufor have been appointed Coordinating Secretaries of the media directorates.
Friends of CG Musa Congratulates Yari
Reacting to the development, the Convener of Friends of CG Musa, Hon. Victor Mathew Bobai, congratulated Senator Abdulaziz Yari on his appointment, describing it as well-deserved and a major boost to the APC’s preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a congratulatory statement issued in Kaduna on behalf of the group, Bobai, who is also Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Kaduna State on Public Affairs, said the entire structure of Friends of CG Musa across the 19 Northern states stands firmly behind the new Director-General and is ready to support his mandate.
“On behalf of the leadership and members of Friends of CG Musa, I heartily congratulate our new Director-General on his appointment. He is a capable, committed and grassroots-oriented leader. We have absolute confidence in his ability to lead our campaign machinery effectively,” Bobai said.
He assured the new campaign DG that Friends of CG Musa would work with the campaign council and deploy its structures, coordinators, women and youth wings, as well as community influencers, towards the success of President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
“We want to assure him that Friends of CG Musa will support him fully. Our structures in all 19 Northern states, our coordinators, our women and youth wings, and our community influencers are ready to work with him. This is a collective assignment,” he said.
Bobai said the Friends of CG Musa movement was inspired by the leadership, patriotism and commitment to national unity exemplified by the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, whom he described as a symbol of professional service, peace and a new form of Northern leadership that commands respect across religious and ethnic lines.
According to him, the goodwill enjoyed by General Musa among Christians, Muslims, veterans, traditional institutions and young people could be channelled into a broader political mobilisation for President Tinubu ahead of 2027.
Bobai reiterated his position that Northern Christians would join their Muslim brothers and sisters in supporting President Tinubu’s re-election, arguing that the political realignment would be driven by performance, inclusion and security.
«“Let me be clear: Christians across the 19 Northern states will join their Muslim brothers and sisters to vote massively for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. One of the strong reasons is what General CG Musa represents. He has become a symbol of professional service, national unity and Northern inclusion,” Bobai declared.»
He said Friends of CG Musa would intensify grassroots engagement to communicate the achievements and policies of the Tinubu administration.
“Friends of CG Musa will work day and night for President Tinubu. We will take his message of infrastructure renewal, his efforts on the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway, the Kaduna-Kano railway, his appointments of competent Northerners, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and General Musa himself, and most importantly his commitment to securing Nigeria, to every ward and every community,” he said.
Bobai added that security remains a major concern for citizens across Northern Nigeria and that the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen national security would remain central to the group’s mobilisation message.
He noted that the ordinary farmer, trader, student and travelling family are primarily interested in a safer and more secure country.
“The ordinary farmer, the trader, the student, the family travelling from Kaduna to Katsina, Sokoto, Kano, Zamfara, Plateau, Benue or Borno, what they want is security. President Tinubu gave that national responsibility to CG Musa and CG Musa is carrying it with dignity and professionalism. That confidence will not be forgotten,” he said.
The Convener further disclosed that Friends of CG Musa would work with the new campaign leadership on grassroots mobilisation, door-to-door sensitisation and community engagement, while promoting peaceful Christian-Muslim cooperation as part of its political messaging.
“This will not be a campaign of religion or ethnicity. It will be a campaign of performance. President Tinubu has given Northern Christians a sense of belonging through leaders like CG Musa. We will repay that trust with votes. We will translate CG Musa’s massive goodwill into votes for continuity under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Bobai concluded.
